Wisconsin Dems file complaint over ‘Koch brothers-funded scheme to suppress votes’
The alliance that killed the Kansas moderate
The political decimation of the moderate Republican in Kansas has been getting a lot of national press. The showdown has been seen as inevitable since the election of Kansas first radically conservative Governor. So how did the state of Kathleen Sebelius and Nancy Kassebaum turn into the state of Brownbackistan? It is hard to fathom, especially in light of Governor Brownback s dismal polling. The following is from Kansas political scientist Dr. H Edward Flentje.
GOP groups plan record $1 billion blitz
Republican super PACs and other outside groups shaped by a loose network of prominent conservatives - including Karl Rove, the Koch brothers and Tom Donohue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce - plan to spend roughly $1 billion on November s elections for the White House and control of Congress, according to officials familiar with the groups internal operations.
Kochs Take Tip From Soros Investing in Voter Registration
Trump, Koch brothers among megadonors looking down-ticket
Conservative megadonors Sheldon Adelson, the Koch brothers and Donald Trump aren t stopping with their efforts to swing the presidential election. Now, they re shoveling cash into down-ticket races. Their big checks have helped state-focused GOP groups more than double the cash haul of their Democratic counterparts and open up another front that could help Mitt Romney beat President Barack Obama.
Inside the Koch World convention
Many of the dozens of rich conservative invitees are expected to write huge checks to a pool of cash distributed among Koch-approved groups, potentially boosting the Kochs 2012 spending plan beyond their historic $395 million goal. And it s also a chance for the Kochs to show off their increasingly robust political machine, including a growing voter database project called Themis that played a major role in conservatives recent efforts in Wisconsin and in which POLITICO has learned Koch operatives have discussed investing $20 million.
Koch Industries, lightning rod in American politics, donates to Tim Knopp’s legislative race
The firm for the first time is reaching into an Oregon legislative race by giving $5,000 to former House Majority Leader Tim Knopp for his primary race against Sen. Chris Telfer, R-Bend. Koch Industries does have a direct interest in Oregon: it owns Georgia-Pacific, which was once headquartered in Portland and still has nine facilities with more than 2,200 employees in the state. But, according to the secretary of state's campaign-finance database, this is the first time Koch Industries has given money to a legislative candidate here (at least going back to 2007, which is when the database was established).
Arkansas: A Koch brothers case study
When the history of the influence of money in the 2012 election is written, Arkansas may be an interesting case study. Despite the focus on the flood of money unleashed by the Citizens United decision on the presidential and congressional races, some of the more lasting results may be felt at the local level. There is a rule in political spending: the lower the category of interest a race holds for the voters, the more influence money can have. A voter considering a presidential or senate candidate will have multiple sources of information and may have a long history of regular voting at that level of the ballot. But what about as they move further down ballot? How many people know who their state legislator is, or their county supervisor, or their local judges? How many care?
WI Dems have filed complaints against Alberta Darling alleging multiple felonies.
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin today filed complaints in multiple jurisdictions alleging that state Sen. Alberta Darling has committed multiple felonies as part of a collusion and obstruction conspiracy. The complaints also name the corporate front group Americans For Prosperity, Wisconsin Family Action, Wisconsin Right to Life and the lobbying arm of for-profit education corporations, the so-called American Federation for Children.
Koch influence present in school lawsuit
Koch-funded groups recently helped push through historic tax cuts in Kansas. This week, they will battle against public schools seeking more funding. Fifty-four school districts are taking the state to court to try to recover funding that was cut by state officials during the recession. The trial, which starts Monday before a three-judge panel in the Shawnee County Courthouse, could take a month.
When plutocrats bullied voters
The Koch brothers and David Siegel aren't the only billionaires putting pressure on their employees to elect Mitt. Across America, this divide between the superrich and everyone else has become a yawning chasm that studies indicate may stifle jobs and growth for years to come. At no time in modern history has the top one hundredth of one percent owned more of our wealth or paid so low a tax rate. But in neither of the two presidential debates so far has the vastness of this astounding inequality gap been discussed. Not by Mitt Romney, who is the embodiment of the predatory world of financial capitalism, and not even by Barack Obama, whose party once fought for working men and women against the economic royalists.
Koch Brother Will Be Official Romney Delegate At Republican National Convention
David Koch will be an official delegate for Mitt Romney at this month s Republican National Convention and will represent the New York Republican Party, according to National Journal. Koch, an oil billionaire currently ranked number five on the Forbes U.S. billionaire list, has pledged along with his brother Charles to spend $100 million in their effort to oust President Obama this November.
Koch Brothers, Allies Pledge $100 Million At Private Meeting To Beat Obama
At a private three-day retreat in California last weekend, conservative billionaires Charles and David Koch and about 250 to 300 other individuals pledged approximately $100 million to defeat President Obama in the 2012 elections. A source who was in the room when the pledges were made told The Huffington Post that, specifically, Charles Koch pledged $40 million and David pledged $20 million.
The 6 billionairs who want Romney to be president
The following 1 percent wonders are doing just fine under Obama, but since their worldview is largely restricted to an obsession with their marginal tax rate, they can t refrain from denouncing the president and thinking of new ways to thwart his re-election bid. The Romney men desperately want to see the first financier president, a man after their own cold hearts.

Meet the Man Who’s Trying to Force Paul Ryan to Look for a Real Job
Once again, Koch brothers cash will face off against a people-powered campaign in Wisconsin this November. The race is for a House seat in the first Congressional District, a seat now held by Paul Ryan. His challenger - the first serious challenge he's faced in 14 years in Congress - is Rob Zerban, a restaurateur and County Commissioner.

Kochs Send Millions to Silence California Workers with Prop. 32
Billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch could be the poster boys for the big money special interests that are dumping hundreds of millions of dollars in this year s elections on the national and state levels. Last week it was reported that the American Future Fund (AFF), a front group for corporate special interests that s linked to the Kochs, dropped $4 million into the effort to pass California s Prop. 32.
Koch Brothers Behind Paul Ryan as VP Choice
I've waited a few days to lay out my analysis of the selection of Paul Ryan for the VP slot on the Romney ticket. Unlike politicos like Dick Morris who bad-mouths the selection privately and shills for it publicly, I'll tell you what I really think. My sources tell me David Koch played a key role in Ryan's selection and that Koch's wife Julia had been quietly lobbying for Ryan. The selection was cemented at the July 22nd fundraiser Koch held for Romney at the former's sumptuous Hamptons estate.
Koch Industries, other CEOs warn employees of layoffs if Obama is reelected
In it was a letter, dated Oct. 1, from Koch Industries president Dave Robertson implicitly warning that "many of our more than 50,000 U.S. employees and contractors may suffer the consequences" of voting for President Obama and other Democrats in the 2012 elections, a list of conservative candidates the company's political action committee endorses and a pair of editorials: one, by David Koch, supporting Mitt Romney, and the other, by Charles Koch, condemning Obama.

Progressive Groups Say Koch Brothers are Attacking Rhode Island
Activists, union leaders and concerned citizens took to Kennedy Plaza Monday to warn that a national agenda put forth by billionaires Charles and David Koch will set the country and Rhode Island back if voters don t rise to the challenge this November. At a rally attended by roughly 30 Rhode Islanders, a group known as Patriot Majority explained what it calls the Koch brothers' "greed agenda," which includes advocating for tax breaks for the extraordinarily wealthy while cutting social programs.
Koch Brothers Fund Bogus Study Bashing Offshore Wind in New Jersey
Not content with the efforts of their group Americans For Prosperity to convince Gov. Chris Christie to derail New Jersey s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, or RGGI, the Koch brothers have also ramped up their efforts to ensure New Jersey s air quality continues to live up to its historic reputation. Last month, the Koch-subsidized Beacon Hill Institute, or BHI, released the latest in a series of slanted cost-benefit analyses of offshore wind energy.

Trick Or Treat A Koch Brother Dresses Up As An Environmentalist In His Fight Against Cape Wind
Yesterday, the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound - a group established by Koch and his cronies to wage war on Cape Wind, the first offshore wind farm proposed in U.S. waters - dredged up an old lawsuit against the project. The frivolous nature of this latest tilt at the project s offshore windmills is enough to make even Don Quixote blush.
Koch Brothers Produce Counterfeit Climate Report to Deceive Congress
An upcoming junk study from a Koch-funded think tank that has taken on the format and appearance of a truly scientific report from the US Government, but is loaded with lies and misrepresentation of actual climate change science. The false report is a tentacle of the Kochtopus - with oil and industrial billionaires Charles and David Koch at the head.
Don’t Let the Koch Brothers Buy Our Elections
"Greedy Lying Bastards" investigates the reason behind stalled efforts to tackle climate change despite consensus in the scientific community that it is not only a reality but also a growing problem that is placing us on the brink of disaster. The film details the people and organizations casting doubt on climate science and claims that human behavior has no affect on greenhouse gases. Mr. Rosebraugh, a political activist, documents the impact of an industry that has continually put profits before people, waged a campaign of lies designed to thwart measures to combat climate change, used its clout to minimize infringing regulations and undermined the political process in the U.S. and abroad.
Koch Industries Fights Chemical Plant Safety Measures
Among the Koch Industries lobbying crew's many agenda items-climate change denial, school segregation, a right wing media takeover-is the company's fight against legislation that would raise US chemical plant safety standards to protect against potential terrorist attacks capable of harming millions of Americans.
Kasich, Koch and Big-Industry Bucks: Why Ohio Is the Next Fracking Frontier
Fracking opponents in southern Ohio won a victory last week when the United States Forest Service (USFS) withdrew more than 3,000 acres of public lands from a federal oil and gas lease sale scheduled for December 7, 2012. The USFS announced that it needed more time to review the potential effects of fracking after receiving petitions and letters from local leaders who used the old-fashioned method of collecting signatures to catch the attention of government officials.

$55 million for conservative campaigns – but where did it come from
The Center to Protect Patient Rights, is an organization with ties to Charles and David H. Koch, the billionaire brothers who bankroll a number of conservative organizations. During the 2010 midterm election, the center sent more than $55 million to 26 GOP-allied groups, tax filings show, funding opaque outfits such as American Future Fund, 60 Plus and Americans for Job Security that were behind a coordinated campaign against Democratic congressional candidates.

Billionaires Channel Millions to Think Tanks
Just as big money is transforming politics, it s also helping to reshape American think tanks. Members of the Forbes 400 have poured millions of dollars into research organizations that fit their social, political and/or business concerns. The conservative Heritage Foundation has received funding from libertarian Charles G. Koch, CEO of Koch Industries, as well as from Richard Mellon Scaife, owner of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and heir to the Mellon banking fortune.
A Hostile Takeover of Our Country Treasonous, noxious, thieving, tyrannical
American democracy is under assault. In one super-PAC alone, Karl Rove and the Enron grifter Ed Gillespie, have assembled $200 million from big polluters and Wall Street moguls to buy the 2012 election. Two of the Koch Brothers, Charles and David, pledged $130 million to elect candidates who favor unrestrained corporate profiteering. The senators and congressmen they fund and elect are not representing the United States - they are representing Koch and its oil industry cronies, Big Pharma, and the Wall Street banksters currently mounting a hostile takeover of our government.

Koch Brothers sue Cato Institute, president
The billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch filed a lawsuit Wednesday for control of the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank in Washington. Cato Senior Fellow: Koch Brothers Want To Take Over Cato Because ‘Cato Wasn’t Doing Enough To Defeat’ Obama
As ThinkProgress reported last week, energy barons Charles and David Koch recently filed a lawsuit attempting to seize majority control over the libertarian Cato Institute. According to Jerry Taylor, a senior fellow at Cato, this effort is part of a longstanding effort by the Kochs to transform Cato from a warehouse for radical libertarianism into something more purely concerned with electoral politics

See Charles Koch Flip Flop on Social Security [VIDEO]
Charles and David Koch built an distortion machine to do their dirty work for them. Through think tanks, academic research, political donations and conservative media, the Koch brothers have steamrolled Americans into believing things that are false and into supporting policies that benefit the Koch brothers' profits.
Koch-Funded Group Paying Tea Partiers to Collect Voters’ Personal Info
Tea party activists have long disputed liberal charges that their movement is simply the product of a corporate Astroturf campaign designed to attack President Obama. For the most part, they've been right. But a new effort to recruit members and gather voter data by Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group funded by the Koch brothers, may serve to revive those old claims.
In ‘Secret Video’ Gov. Kasich Thanks Koch Brothers Union Busting Front Group Americans For Prosperity For Their Support
In an "unlisted video" which Gov. Kasich recorded using state resources, he tells the Koch Industries astroturf group Americans For Prosperity "... in the four months that I've been Governor, we've accomplished a lot in Ohio... in all of these efforts the strong support of Americans for Prosperity has made a really big difference. ...it's so important that Ohio's fighters for freedom, the grassroots leaders of Americans for Prosperity, continue to lend their support to the effort to get Ohio back on track."

Koch Industries Acting Like It’s Never Given Money to the Democrats Before
If you've been listening to the Democratic Party and liberal activists over the past couple of years, then you've heard that Charles and David Koch, the wealthy industrialist brothers who have placed their inestimable financial muscle behind conservative causes and candidates, are democracy's rapists. So it may seem a bit strange that Washington senator Patty Murray, the head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, recently solicited Koch Industries for a donation. An executive for Koch Industries, Philip Ellender, replied to her with an indignant letter, which he helpfully posted online as well:
Dems Defend Taking Koch Money From Same PAC That Gave to Scott Walker
Another note on the Koch money funding Democratic campaigns. While Harry Reid and the DSCC try to raise money off the liberal animus against the Koch brothers, the DSCC and a handful of Democratic senators have given no indication that they are willing to give back the thousands of dollars their campaigns received from KOCHPAC, the political arm of Koch Industries.

The "Draft Christie committee" is a group of very wealthy backers who want Chris Christie to run for president. One of those involved is David Koch of the Koch family; the Kochs are one of the main stringpullers on the tea parties. They also fund loose borders advocates like Reason Magazine, and David Koch joined with George Soros and gave $10 million to the illegal immigration-supporting American Civil Liberties Union. That was to fight the Patriot Act, but it also freed up money that the ACLU has used to hamper immigration enforcement.

Why the Koch Brothers and ALEC Don’t Want You to Vote
Today residents of Mississippi will decide whether voters must produce a government-issued ID in order to cast a ballot and voters in Maine will choose whether to keep or overturn a new law banning election day voter registration, which had previously been on the books since 1973. These votes occur amidst the backdrop of an unprecedented, Republican-led war on voting. - A key component of the GOP's campaign has been orchestrated by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which receives substantial funding from the Koch brothers.
Plutocracy 2012: Koch Brothers Organization Spending $1 Million To Buy The State Of Arkansas
Americans For Prosperity (AFP), the group founded and funded by the right-wing billionaires the Koch Brothers, has its sights set on Arkansas. Having just spent big in Kansas to unseat some of the state s last moderate Republicans, AFP is now looking to swing both the House and Senate in Arkansas to the Republican Party.
Koch brothers aren’t just buying elections – they’re investing big in anti-science think tanks
Koch Industries spent $40 million in the 2010 election cycle, but they've vowed to spend $100 million this year. That s not counting the money that goes to think tanks such as the Cato Institute or Americans for Prosperity to engineer research - such as making voters and decision-makers "suspect of science" - that could then help elect Republicans.
Long Ties to Koch Brothers Key to Cain’s Campaign
Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain has cast himself as the outsider, the pizza magnate with real-world experience who will bring fresh ideas to the nation's capital. BEST Climate Change Study Supports Koch Gas Fracking Investments
The kicker is that BEST is partly funded by the Koch brothers, who have become notorious for their financial support of the "climate change denial machine." Hence the bombshell, and with it a lesson in the perils of corporate funding for scientific research. Or is it? Take a closer look at some of the Koch brothers energy investments and pair that with another BEST funder, and it s clear that the new study works in favor of the Koch interests, not against them.
Who Really Speaks for American Business
Charles and David, the third and fourth richest men in America, first gained notoriety in the fall, when a remarkable expose by Jane Mayer in the New Yorker showed how they'd funded not only the Tea Party but also the hydra-headed campaign to undermine the science of global warming, all in the service of even more profit for their oil and gas business.
U.S. Republican Koch oil billionaires help fund the Fraser Institute. Why the Fraser Institute
So why are the Koch brothers in Canada and why have they selected the Fraser Institute to be the repository of their generosity? A trip to The Fraser Institute's website offers clues, if not answers. Fraser Institute Branding: Freedom, Prosperity, Choice Fraser's website and Facebook page boldly promote a conservative political agenda. And although the Fraser Institute claims to be "independent" and "non-partisan", the institute has been a connecting point for many leading conservatives in Canada.

More On Koch-Style Libertarianism
Conservatives and libertarians are very defensive about Koch funding, but this is the sort of thing that grounds liberal suspicion. Michele Bachmann: The First 2012er to Get Koch Cash
The political action committee for the Kochs' massive conglomerate, Koch Industries, has also given generously to big-name conservative politicians throughout the country at both the federal and state level. But when it comes to the 2012 presidential race, the Kochs have been more selective with their giving, with only one presidential candidate so far benefiting from their largesse: Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

Bill Koch’s Company Donates Another $1 Million to Romney’s Super PAC
Bill Koch, the Palm Beach billionaire who criticized his brothers' support of libertarian causes and has long escaped notice on the national political stage, is emerging as a major supporter of Mitt Romney. Huron Carbon, a subsidiary of Koch's West Palm Beach-based Oxbow Corp., donated $1 million to Romney's Restore Our Future "super PAC" last month. That brings Koch's Restore Our Future donations to a total of $2 million, including $750,000 Oxbow contributed last year and $250,000 Koch gave on his own.
How Shadowy Right-Wing Front Groups Engineered Our National Embrace Of Debt Reduction Over Job Creation
For the entire year, as a sluggish economy sputters by and states continue to struggle with falling revenue, the conversation in Congress has centered solely on spending reduction. Earlier this year, we witnessed looming government-showdown duels between competing spending reduction plans. Now with the debt ceiling debate, the only two options are a choice between a package of painful cuts and a package of deeply draconian cuts. There has been no lively discussion of new policy ideas for job creation, foreclosure mitigation, or how to spur demand, the key driver of economic recovery.
Chris Christie Lets Loose at Secret Koch Brothers Confab
"We know the answers. They're painful answers. We're going to have to reduce Medicare benefits. We're going to have to reduce Medicaid benefits. We're going to have to raise the Social Security age. We're going to have to do these things. We're going to have to cut all types of other government programs that some people in this room might like."
Maddow: ‘Every time you turn over a political rock’ the Koch brothers are there
Last night on her eponymous show, Rachel Maddow explored the Koch brothers donations to Republican candidates like Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) and Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI), Americans for Prosperity and a variety of other causes that benefit their business. She noted that one of the recipients of their donations, Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS), ran a xenophobic campaign against his Indian-American opponent and then opposed an online consumer product safety database that the Koch brothers opposed.
Are the Koch Brothers Funding Rush Limbaugh
Just in time for the release of Brave New Foundation's new film, Koch Brothers Exposed, Rush Limbaugh has thrown in with Charles and David Koch in their letter war with Obama campaign manager Jim Messina. No surprise there; Rush has made his fortune defending the rich and powerful against the 99%. But does Rush actually have a vested interest in the Koch brothers' success?

That brings Soros total donations this year to $4.3 million. The NY Times reported that Soros made his contribution at a luncheon where donors committed to an additional $10 million in Democratic campaign financing.
Climate study, funded in part by conservative group, confirms global warming
Koch-Funded Climate Skeptic’s Own Data Confirms Warming
This week, a climate hearing was held in the US House of Reps. Six 'experts' on climate were brought in, but only three were scientists. And it turns out that one of the GOP's star witnesses -- a scientist who's been vocal in his skepticism of global temperature records, the physicist Richard Muller, of University of California, Berkeley, didn't quite help them disprove climate change. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Richard Muller, Koch brothers-funded scientist, declares global warming is real
One of the most prominent global warming skeptics is changing is his tune. Richard Muller, a physicist who spent two years trying to see if mainstream climate scientists were wrong about the earth's climate changes, determined that they were right, the Associated Press reported. His findings showed the temperature had risen about 1.6 degrees since the 1950s.
Top Climate Change-Denying Scientist Found to Be on Exxon, Koch Brothers’ Payroll
Dr. Willie Soon is certainly entitled to his theory that global warming is caused by solar variations rather than CO2, especially given his field of study within astrophysics - Solar, Stellar and Planetary Sciences. But getting paid $1 million in grants by the Koch Brothers, Exxon and a fleet of other energy industry giants makes Soone a stooge.
SPECIAL INVESTIGATION: Who’s behind the ‘information attacks’ on climate scientists?
This week, in a courtroom in Prince William County, Virginia, a hearing will take place that could have implications for the privacy rights of scientists at colleges and universities across the country. It's part of a lawsuit brought by the American Tradition Institute, a free-market think tank part of a broader network of groups with close ties to energy interests that have long fought greenhouse gas regulation. Our investigation also finds that ATI has connections with the Koch brothers, Art Pope and other conservative donors seeking to expand their political influence.
Dirty Oil and Dirty Politics Make Interesting Bedfellows; 2012 Documentary Film Exposes Koch Brothers
The documentary "Greedy Lying Bastards," set for release in 2012, reports Koch Industries and Exxon Oil have each spent nearly $25 million to dispel claims of global warming. It is tough to right the wrongs of the fossil fuel industry when it wields so much influence over energy and environmental policies in the U.S. and around the world.
Herman Cain and the Kochs
The Associated Press broke an interesting story recently noting that Herman Cain, who has portrayed himself as an outsider to politics, has in fact worked closely since 2005 with Americans for Prosperity, a corporate front group organized and funded in large part by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch, long-time financiers of America s conservative movement.
