Supreme Court showdown over Trump’s immigration legacy ends with a whimper
Three major cases went up in smoke after Biden abandoned Trump policies. On Tuesday, all of the parties to Department of Homeland Security v. New York, a lawsuit challenging a Trump-era policy targeting low-income immigrants, asked the Supreme Court to dismiss that case. The Court swiftly granted that request, removing from consideration one of the most contentious cases that the justices planned to hear this year.

Matthew Albence, acting director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said on Thursday that ICE will deport immigrants in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program if the Supreme Court strikes it down later this year. That statement seems tocontradict Chief Justice John Roberts's understanding that such deportations will not happen.
